Dr. John Mayfield Jr. is a native of Taylorsville, MS. His area of special interest in veterinary medicine include orthopedics and neurosurgery. He is a member of MVMA and AVMA. He is also an active member of Temple Baptist Church. He resides in Hattiesburg with his wife, Sandy. They have three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.

Dr. Mayfield Jr. attended Mississippi State University for his undergraduate studies before transferring to Auburn University. He received a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Auburn University in 1974.
